Fall Hot Air Balloon Festival

Yesterday I went to a fall festival with my friend and got to ride a hot air balloon and it was all very fun and exciting. It made me really excited for Halloween next week and I will do another blogpost for that and share what I dressed as and what I am doing.

They had this at a designated area for "Oktober fest" with german music and food

We found a Photo Booth and had to take the funniest pictures and then we also got these cute pins for memory

Look its me and my husband...no thank you

They had so many hot air balloons, some were just for show and they lit up. These were tethered hot air balloon rides and I went on the red, yellow, green stripped on in the back. We had to wait 2 hours and the ride lasted about 3 minutes, it was very hot and the basket was tiny.

My first time eating funnel cake, yumm!

I would definitely recommend going to a fall/Halloween festival, they're so much fun. I can't believe October is almost over, Sophia.

My fall in pictures

First of all, I am very sorry and sure regret not posting these past 3 months. I was overwhelmed with schoolwork as I have chosen very difficult this year, but I'm determined to become active again. My fall has been full of football games, cats, coffee and homecoming. Couldn't forget to take a few good pictures as always. Fall is really a beautiful time and I am really excited to share all that has been going on in my life (a lot) with this blog.

Luna, my first cat got into the habit of sleeping in boxes...i have no idea why.
I also spent a cloudy day in the city...It was only in September but really chilly.

Ok, a moment for honesty. This is hot chocolate, I don't like coffee. But it was in a small cafe with cozy decorations, really perfect for fall. And it was also quite delicious.

Enjoyed a day in West Midtown:)

Some of my relatives came to visit my family and showed us some old pics of them in the 70's. They really inspired me to take better photographs and capture life as it is now.

Another coffee pic? Yeah, guilty...But this still isn't mine.

And this is by far the most exciting news...We rescued another kitty. We named her Lucy, she is black and has yellow-green eyes. Her skin is very fluffy and cozy and she is about 3 months old.

I have many exciting things to share with all of y'all, I can't wait!
Love, Sophia

Summer OOTD: Stripes and Lace

It has been a very emotional and stressful week for me, but I managed to create an OOTD blogpost. Even though we haven't had summer(y) weather this week, I'm still going to wear summer outfits. Because I love photography, I tend to take many different pictures even if it's the same outfit.

What I love about this dress is how flowly it is. It's so fun, especially when twirling.

I find this dress to give me a spontaneous feeling, I like that it isn't tight.

When I wear this dress I feel free, like I can just do what I want.

I like wearing this dress with more accessories than I normally wear, because it is so plain and simple.

To add color to this dress I wore a cute orange lace bralette underneath. It contrast with the dress, because it is so cute and delicate. In comparison the dress is more boyish (because of the wide fit).

These flowers just seemed to be perfect for a picture with outfit.

Here you can see the cool detail about this dress, the back cutout!!! And if you have read any of my other blogposts, you probably know my addiction/love for back cutouts.

I love how the bralette intentionally peeks out in the back cutout and at the side of my dress.

This dress looks so fun, especially when dancing/twirling. It's just like my hair, but a bit more tamed...

Here is a good complete picture of my look, simple but detailed.

Here is the side view of my dress, it's cool how loose the dress is.

Another thing that I love about this dress is when you move/twirl it looks like you can see my entire back and bralette (like in this picture). This is due to the big back cutout and loose fitting. Lately, I have also been in love with pictures that are partially blurry because of movement. Like in this picture I am playing with my hair and its all blurry, but my dress is still relatively focused.

Here you can see the neckline of this dress in detail. Here is also one of my favorite necklaces, I wore it to add detail and I think it adds to the vibe of this dress.

These are my shoes I am wearing, cute gold strappy sandals.

Lately I have also been addicting to painting, drawing small tattoos on my body (like this pink sun on my ankle). Every year in the summer I buy me cute handmade looking bracelets and wear them around my ankle. For some reason, I just really love how it looks.

Have a great summer,

Summer 2k15 Haul

The past 3 weeks I have been traveling...all around Germany! I was way to busy to be able to post any blogposts, but now I have tons of time (luckily, bc of summer). So for these past 3 weeks I have been shopping for my trip to Germany and afterwards. Sadly I didn't find anything worthy to buy in Germany (I don't like their stores). Instead I found a ton of clothing perfect for the summer over here in America (of course).

T-shirt: Target 12$, Necklace: Michaels 6$

Two great finds and two great prices at my two favorite stores. A few months ago I found this John Lennon print on a poster on Urban Outfitters and I fell in love. Now I found the same print on a shirt at Target, I had to get it! I rolled it up and paired it with some highwaisted shorts. I have been seeing these stone necklaces everywhere (especially UO), but they were always to expensive. Then I found this nice remake from Michaels and the quality is better then expected.

Second Hand Store: Vans, 21$
Can u believe this? I found Vans with a cat print! If you haven't read my short biography yet, you may not know that I am obsessed with anything cat-like.

There are all different cats printed across my vans and I found these barely used shoes for 20$. It's a steal!

BP Nordstrom: 46$
I must admit this dress was quite out of my price range, but i fell in love with it. The print screams summer and I love the low V-neck in the front. But the best part is def. the back cutout (I love back cutouts). Normally I would wear a strapless bra or a bandeau underneath.

STS Blue: 35$
These shorts are a staple in my summer closet. They fit me absolutely perfect and hug my hips. They are classic dark blue high-waisted shorts. Luckily they aren't too short on me (as most high-waisted shorts are). They were a little bit over my budget, but they were totally worth it. Did I forget to mention that they are comfortable? Yes, and I bought them from the BP section at Nordstrom.

Pink: 20$
My latest obsession: blue tie dye (or any other colors). I found this at Victoria's Secret Semi-Annual Sale for 50% off. It's such a great price and I love the cross strap detail.

Madewell: 8$
The cut of this huge cropped tee is what I love about this t-shirt the most. But the bright orange color just upgrades the design on this t-shirt to another level. I would combine this t-shirt with one or several long necklaces (as seen in one of these pictures above). Originally I think this costed 40$, reduced to 20$ and because my Mom works at J.crew she got this extra reduction. But me and my mom don't think it was supposed to be reduced this much, we think they might have reduced it too much. Anyway it made this t-shirt more than worth buying!!!

Hope that I have inspired you with this mini summer haul.
See you soon,
Sophia

My personal view on America's Education

Everyday I come back to this topic, America's Education. There are so many things wrong with it; the classes, the content, the schools and the entire system.  When I lived in Germany I was happy to go to school everyday, I liked my teacher, classes, school and classmates. In comparison, I force myself to go to school here everyday, hoping to get into a good college one day. There are so many reasons why this is the situation I find myself in.  The most ridiculous fact about this is that I go to very good school (in comparison to other american public high school). So for two years, I have come up with reasons, facts and ideas about; why American Education is so bad and what we need to change.  After all don't you think it is ironic that America is so developed, yet their school system is bad. Education is important and it affects America's future. A few days ago, I was thinking about how I want to raise my children (in like 15 years) and then suddenly I thought: "Well, my child is going to receive far better Education than I am". One second later I noticed that not enough will have changed with America's Education, if we don't finally do something about it. I actually got worried.

What is wrong with America's Education?

1. Students learn how to pass tests instead of actually learning

All of my teachers prepare me how to score higher on ACT's, EOC's and SAT's. I NEVER truly learn ANYTHING. Learning is true and in depth understanding of a subject. In my accelerated, honors or AP classes, we rush through the material so we can "learn more". In Germany (my classes were at a higher level than AP is here) we went through a subject in depth, but also at a fast pace. There I had 14 different subjects (Geography, Chemistry, Physics, Math, German, English, French, History, Latin, Art, Music, P.E., Biology, Economy) every week. This gave me an amazingly well knowledge on so many subjects. Instead in America I don't learn anything about Latin, Geography and Music and I have a bad knowledge about the other 11 subjects. I go to school to LEARN, not to prepare for tests so I will score high on them and get into a good college.  School shouldn't JUST be about getting into college, it should be mainly be about learning.

2.  Our testing

So even though we are just preparing for these tests instead of learning, the SAT's are ridiculous. They only test students on our knowledge/skill on Reading/Writing/Math. This gives the students the message that only those subjects are important to learn. They may be the foundation of learning, but doesn't America want their students to know beyond the fundamentals?  Now what about CRCT's and EOC's, what is the purpose of those tests? And please don't tell me they just exist to see which students should be able to move unto the next grade!

3. Education should be something we should enjoy...or at least partially

Education and learning is fun and interesting, so why isn't school? Sure, tests are quite tiring and boring. Our world is full of interesting things that we should be learning about. I understand taking notes is important to be able to learn, but learning is beyond taking notes and studying. Learning is experiencing, experiencing what you learn and learning from your experience. Not once have I experienced anything in an american school. Everyday and all day long I sit in a classroom and take notes, listen to teachers or do worksheets. Learning is beyond that, learning is doing research and understanding a subject. In America's schools, students learn ABOUT a subject, but they don't truly UNDERSTAND it. I want to learn with my eyes and see historic sights and go to a science museum.     I want the future of America to be intelligent and experience with their own minds.

3. The Content

We learn the entire history of our world in half a year....I don't think that is right. How I am supposed to deeply understand what and why everything happened on the thousands of years that our world has existed? You just don't. Instead you learn the most important events without the details. In an on-level class I would have totally understood this kind of learning. But this was an honors class and all we were taught were important dates, facts and sometimes a few details (I'm not exaggerating). I love history, I want to go deep into detail. But I find this problem with every class, in french class I learn french, but never am able to speak it fluently. What else would be the point of this class? Here's a little story to prove my point: I have only been learning french for a year, so I don't expect myself to speak french fluently of course. But I also couldn't imagine me speaking french fluently with another year of french. When I traveled to Germany and went to (my old) school for two days with my friends, one of the classes I was in was french. They have had french for 2 years and they speak perfectly fluent, I was amazed. They didn't even have an accent...and then there was me with my poor french speaking skills and an terrible american accent. I just really hate the way that everything I am taught is never into depth. Next school year I will be taking my first AP class and I am just absolutely hoping that we will go into depth with that class. Yet I still have a fear that we will be learning more in my AP class, but not into depth. Meaning we will know more events, facts, and dates, but we will not learn them with a good amount of detail.

What is America's Education lacking?

1.  Teachers

Yes, America's Schools are lacking teachers. We need more teachers at one school, so that classes will become smaller. Smaller classes will mean more personal attention, that will lead to more understanding, learning and improvement in grades.

2.  Productivity

The productivity in my classes is ridiculous. We do so many unnecessary things and projects from which I don't learn anything. On other days, we are just given busy work. Wasn't America supposed to be about working smarter instead of harder?

Conclusion

These opinions, facts, and ideas I have just pulled out of my personal experience. I do tend to compare the american education system with the german one. As I have experienced both and have seen great differences, I like the german education system far better. But I have met teachers, who have also experienced both education systems and tend to like the american one. So I can conclude that it may be different for every single person and what kind of education system they prefer.

Lots of love,
Sophia

Mini Spring/Summer Haul

Over these past few weeks, I have been shopping quite a lot. Here is a Mini Collective Haul to show you the things I could find. Because I grow a lot and fast, I tend to grow out of the most basics such as shirts and shorts, so this are more of the basic summer/spring items. As you may know, my new years resolution was to improve my blog/blogposts. I tried to have better pictures/edits and I have updated my blog-header. It's hard with school and the many other things that I have going on in my life, to post as often as I wish too. But I have decided less blogposts with good quality is a good option. So I wanted to ask what other improvements would you want from my blog?

So I fell in love with this crochet tank top. I love the crochet detail and the cutout of the shirt. It's perfect for "dressing" up a pair of shorts for a hot summer day.

So this is what it looks from the front, the neckline looks like two spikes are a hard edge heart neckline. I also love the color of this tshirt, as I do tend to wear a lot of blue. The color/texture has this vintage vibe that upgrades this shirt to an entire new level. As you  may or may not know, I am the person for finding good quality cheap clothing. I found this tank top to be a bit overpriced for target, but somehow worth it because I loved this design so much.

Now comes the best part....the back! If there is one thing that I seriously love about clothing is low/open/see-through back cutouts. This has a low back and it continues the crochet from the front until the middle of my back.

I've been wanting a muscle tee tank for forever. And I finally found this one. I love the print, fitting and color.

Target, 12$
I thought the price of this tank top was really affordable too. I have been obsessed with the hole "wanderlust" theme anyways. I love traveling and adventure, so this t'shirt is perfect for me <3

Gold, has many straps and super comfortable. Could it get any better?

Target, 20$
Yep, because they're only 20$.

Shorts: Target, 20$, T'shirt UO: 12$

These are some basic light washed, rolled up, medium length shorts. Perfect for any summer day. The fit is good and so is their price. I LOVE YOU TARGET!

Yep, more target. Last year I fell in love with these bikini's. This color looks good on my skin and the ruffle in the front flatters my figure. I also really love that this bikini top doesn't have to much support and is really comfortable.

Target, 20$

Nop, I didn't forget to mention these adorable cutouts, this detail is what makes this bikini special.

Victoria Secret, 12$

I really have been into mixing and matching top and bottom parts of bikinis and this color worked with all of the colors of my top parts. The small ruffle detail is absolutely adorable. Don't worry it covers much more than it looks like it does.

Target, 10$

So I needed a pair of basic sleep shorts. These ones are grey so they will work with any top I have. They are absolutely comfortable!

Target, 20$

Last year I bought a brown pair of these just they had metallic studs on them. This pair has green/yellow/orange/red/green/blue/pink embroideries. They are comfortable and basically work with anything I own.

Target, 20$

Last but certainly not least, these cute high-waisted cut off shorts. They are sadly not comfortable, but what else to expect from high-waisted shorts? They work perfectly with this shirt and give off this rough, used, boho vibe. LOVE

What are some of your spring/summer essentials?
kisses, Sophia
